Last few changes..
There are a few more things i need to change on my three products. I have decided that i will change the price of my magazine, to £1. The reason i have done this will be explained in my evaluation. On the contents page, i need to reposition some of the pages as not all fit and i may need to cut out a few words as they don't all fit in. On the DPS i have noticed, that some of the questions have merged into the before answer and also that they don't stand out. I think that these are the only things that need to be changed on my three products and then they will be completely finished. I am really pleased with the way they have all turned out.

dps final - after chaning colour
dps final
I then started work on my DPS, i thought i should stick the the new theme of orange writing. I used the same font from the front cover again on the DPS to keep the continuity. I decided to have an interview on my DPS as it helps to give information about the artist and what they do. I like the way my DPS has turned out.

contents after editing it.
After rethinking and changing my idea of my front cover, i rethought my idea of my contents. I knew that the bottom half was confusing, so i did some research of many magazines, some to do with music and some not. I thought by laying it out as i did with the number in large at the top, then the title of the page underneath, underlined then a small description of what the page will be about, it will effectively work and i think it did! I changed from having 3 smaller images of the contents, to 1 large images, that shows more detail and facial expressions. I really think this contents page works and is alot better than my first attempt.
New final front cover - after changing
After restarting, i felt i needed some inspiration - which is when "The Fly" came into mind. I browsed through a few of there magazines and saw how they presented ideas and used all different fonts for different parts. The top half of the magazine, is the regular stuff - masthead, price, date and issue number. As you go further down the font changes, to a bold stencil capital font, this shows that these parts are main stories. I think my new final idea, is alot better than the first.
After speaking to Miss Bostock, it was decided my front cover needed a bit of colour. So this is why i changed the white writing all to orange! I completely restarted again, to give myself a blank page to work with, i made the masthead bigger. i think the orange works alot better than white and will stand out from other competing magazines!

CONTENTS FINAL
This is the final for my contents. Putting it next to my front cover, you can see how i have kept the theme similar - colour, pictures and font. I do think i could possibly change the way the bottom half is set out, it could be seen as confusing and the numbers are placed weirdly. Overall i am happy with my finished contents page.

Final Front cover - unsigned
Front Cover - unsigned
This was my first idea for my front cover, as you can see i blocked out the background of the right hand side and i also brightened the picture so they two girls stand out more. I used a large masthead, and use a small font for the rest of the text. I thought it was a good idea to stick to one font as it kept it all together and it makes it look like the same magazine. I only have two story's on my front cover but i think if it had anymore it may be a bit too crowded.
final photo for magazine cover.
This was the photo i decided to use for my front cover, i chose this as both people were staring into the camera - i also thought it was a good photo to use as they have different facial expressions. This could be seen as good or bad, but i think it works well. i knew there was some things i would have to change on Photoshop (the right side of the background) as it distracts you from the main subject of the picture. The photograph also works well as it shows one of the members holding a guitar, giving an impression of what they do and that she plays.

Photo's for magazine.
This contact sheet, just shows the images i took. I took so many pictures to start with, alot were of the same photo but from different heights/angles or use of lighting. It helped me taking so many as i had a wide range to choose from and if something was wrong in one, i could find another similar where the problem may have been fixed or less visible.

more! magazine - contents analysis.
more! magazine have a simple layout, they have used mainly black text, but have included two other colours (blue and pink) to make some parts stand out and to section it up. There are three coloums on the contents page, on the far left a letter from the editor, in the middle "more! On the cover" and bottom right "Best of the rest..."
The contents page is quite busy, there are 4 images on the page, none of which relate to the front cover which shows that they are trying to show all different parts of the magazine. more! have not used there masthead largely on there contents page like magazines such as Vogue but instead have "this WEEK" in ways I think this is affective as it is regular every week but it doesn't show the magazine's masthead again.
more! have used images, unlike alot of other magazines they haven't got a large central image that takes up alot of space just a few regular size photos, i don't think this works very effectively.
I do like how more! have included a letter from the editor and i will think about using this on my contents page.
Analysis a contents page - Mens Fitness.
Just by looking at the magazine you can tell it's aimed at the male audience, it had simple colours (black and white) and all the images just shout men at you. The images all relate to a topic in the magazine, and have the numbers in a large font written onto the picture. They all have interest of different types of males, running, american football, motorbikes, women etc. The text is plain but effective, the red numbers of the page with black writing sticks out from the plain white background.
I like how Men's Fitness have used two large images and a few smaller ones, i also like that the numbers of where them pages are, are written over the image, i also like how in the bottom right corner the person who took the images is stated, i am quite surprised they do not have an editors collum though.

Analysis Of My Masthead 2
This is my other design for my magazines masthead, i took the idea from Kerrang! I liked that it was all capitals and a stood out from the others. I think that i will use this as my final masthead, i may change the colours and size and maybe stretch it out to fit the top of my magazine when i add it to it. I could also add a shadow to the background or just behind the letters but i haven't completly decided yet.
Analysis Of My Masthead 1
This was one of my ideas for my masthead, i liked that all the text was in small text not capitals and i liked that i had made this up myself and not taken it from another type of magazine, but i did worry that it may be a problem because it is not very clear to read. I wasn't sure on what colour to use so i just stuck with black at the moment, but i could change it if i wanted it to stand out more.

Contents Page Analysis - National Enquirer.
Opening the National Enquirer i was highly suprised to see that there was no contents page! Where there contents page would be there have a section of "WHO'S HOT" and "WHO'S NOT" and also then four large images of celebrities, with stories about them.
I do find it strange that there is no contents page, but this is more of a newspaper style magazine and i chose it because of the old style fanzines.
Masthead Analysis - National Enquirer
National Enquirer is an Amercian magazine, so in their title have stuck to the colours to represent there flag, red, blue and white. All of the lettering is in capitals and is a simple colour, no affect on shades, shadows etc. The magazine is sometimes just shorterned to "Enquirer" so this word is in a bigger font so people if they know the magazine by that name will find it. Looking on the internet at past covers of this magazine you can tell that they normally cover their masthead with some of the central dominent image, i think that this takes focus from the title, which isn't always a good idea. I will not be thinking about this in my magazine as i don't think it works well. I do like that they have used the colours of their country and that the flag is also included in the masthead.

DPS Analysis - Kerrang!
Kerrang!'s double page spread is clearly labled at the top of the page as to what it contains "NEWS". Kerrang! have shown that page number in the bottom right corner "KERRANG! 07" including the name of the magazine here, keeps reminding the reader what they're reading, They have also labled the picture of the 2nd page with "Crowd-pleaser: Blink 182's Mark Hoppus", this helps the reader to clearly identidy who the person in the image is.
The main title for the double page spread i have chosen, is "WE CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK!" this is a quote from the article, which immediately tells you what the article is going to be about, but even with the clear title Kerrang! have also wrote "BLINK 182 ANNOUNCE SUMMER UK TOUR" this confirms for definate what the article will be about before even reading it. For the main title, Kerrang! have used white colouring to the text, the words "can't wait" are a larger font than the other which gives these words emphasis. The second title is red and a much small font than the main title. As they start the article, the B for Blink has been put in a bold text and made larger font than the rest of the article.
Kerrang! have used a shot of Mark Hoppus playing at a gig, he is holding a guitar and has a big smile on his face. In ways this can show he loves what he does by the smile he is holding and positing of his body.
Overall, i think that Kerrang! have produced a really affective double page spread. I love the bigger letter at the start of the article and i think it could be done in many other ways, i will deffiantly think about this for my double page spread.
